Human Rights Day 2020

Human Rights Day

10 December 2020

Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on 10 December every year.

The date was chosen to honor the United Nations General Assembly's adoption and proclamation, on 10 December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights and one of the first major achievements of the new United Nations. The formal establishment of Human Rights Day occurred at the 317th Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on 4 December 1950, when the General Assembly declared resolution 423(V), inviting all member states and any other interested organizations to celebrate the day as they saw fit.

The day is normally marked both by high-level political conferences and meetings and by cultural events and exhibitions dealing with human rights issues. Besides, it is traditionally on 10 December that the five-yearly United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights and Nobel Peace Prize are awarded. Many governmental and non-governmental organizations active in the human rights field also schedule special events to commemorate the day, as do many civil and social-cause organisations.

This year, the United Nations has set the theme for Human Rights Day 2020 as “Recover Better -- Stand Up For Human Rights”. The theme relates to the COVID-19 pandemic and focuses on the need to build back better by ensuring Human Rights are central to recovery efforts, according to the United Nations.

International Volunteer Day 2020

International Volunteer Day 2020

  "Together We Can Through Volunteering"

Date: - 05 December 2020

International Volunteer Day observed on December 5 every year, is an opportunity for people to say a big thank you to all those who put service above self.

"Together We Can through Volunteering" is the focus of IVD this year amid the Covid-19 pandemic that has thrown people across the world in an unprecedented crisis.

5 December was designated by the International Volunteer Day 2020United Nations in 1985 as an international observance day to celebrate the power and potential of volunteerism.

It is an opportunity for volunteers, and volunteer organizations, to raise awareness of, and gain understanding for, the contribution they make to their communities. It is also viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organizations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values, and to promote their work among their communities, non-governmental organizations (NG0’s), United Nations agencies, government authorities and the private sector.

The act of volunteering is found in all cultures, languages, and religions. Each year, hundreds of millions of people volunteer their time and skills to help make the world a better place. When they volunteer, they help to improve the lives of others. And when they volunteer, they gain a greater sense of belonging to their communities.

On 5 December, people around the world will celebrate IVD with rallies, parades, volunteer fairs, group clean ups, blood donations, conferences, exhibitions, fundraising, workshops and volunteer recognition events.

Amid the Covid-19, in India, thousands of corona warriors are in the forefront fighting the war against the pandemic.

The UN General Assembly mandated International Volunteer Day in 1985. The UN Volunteers campaign every year to encourage volunteers in communities for peace and development. . This year the IVD campaign that started on October 15 culminates on December 5.
